Thursday 15th November saw 7 LGCCC members make the journey over to Flitwick where Ampthill & District Camera Club hosted 16 other teams in this annual cup competition.
The competition was held in a large hall with tiered seating and a PA system, somewhat larger and more luxurious than the Brunt Room!
Unfortunately, the judge for the evening, Graham Hodgkiss ARPS MPAGB APAGB AFIAP, met some traffic problems on his trip over to Bedfordshire and arrived late. This meant that the coffee break was taken before the meeting started and probably meant the comments on the 102 images were a little curtailed in order to get through them by 10pm.
The competition formed 6 rounds with 17 clubs’ images per round. Graham gave comments on the shots in order all the way through to the end and then marked them right at the end. Trophies were awarded for first and second place. There was also a shield for the best image of the night selected from all the images which scored a maximum twenty points.
Leighton Buzzard Camera Club won the competition with 99 total points. Second was Stevenage with 97. The individual award went to someone who has previously judged competitions at Letchworth, Colin Southgate, of Harpenden Camera Club, for his image, “The Pink Bag”.
Letchworth came a rather disappointing joint 13th. If ever there was proof that different judges like different images this was it. In October, at our competition against Hitchin in the Melbourn Cup, we had been given twenties for Garry’s “Taking Baby Home“, John Dingeman’s “Brown Hare” and Kirsten’s “Sunset Rays caught by the Tide“, withn a nineteen for Rob’s “Recumbent Puffin“. This time round those same shots got only 16, 10, 11 & 15 respectively.
